I've Been Thinking...

...I should get some new tires for the Little House on the Highway after this trip.

We are in Anza Borrego State Park in San Diego County just north of the Mexican border. As the desert wildflower hot line site stated...there are no flowers. Why would I think otherwise? The Ocotillo have some residual flowers left on them but all their little green leaves have fallen away. We stayed our first night north of Mojave, CA. in the high desert. Although they just had a recent rainstorm - standing water along the roadside - no flowers there either. The temperature here is in the mid 80's, 20 degrees higher than at home. This will take a few days to acclimate.

Something learned: Don't read a photography book your wife brings along on a road trip and re-adjust the settings in your camera as the "professional" suggested. All the pictures I took this morning look like diarrhea. Stick to what you know that works. On the road away from home is NOT the time to experiment.

Thank you all for the well wishes to have a nice time. Will post again in a couple of days.
Oh and Sinbad? He is flithy dirty, enjoys his evening desert walks and is now sleeping in the closet.

  3. I am laughing too - you are really too funny! Hope the trip goes along better than your camera experiment! I did that once and completely botched a very memorable moment, which cannot be recaptured, of course!

  4. How do you keep your cat from running and not coming back? If I could get my cats to behave like yours, I'd be so happy. Whats your trick?

Diarrhea or not, your pictures are beautiful!! Just dont take actual pictures of... diarrhea.

  5. LOL...never trust a book! The best way it 'YOUR' way, what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. Sorry all the pictures looked like diarrhea, hopefully you will get a second chance at some of them.

  6. Well I knew they weren't exactly your tyres! But it was a good reminder if you were thinking 'bout replacing yours soon. Got the picture on the revised camera settings! Enjoy your journey and we look (your blogging fans), to more wonderful photographs

  10. Love the old tire. Reminds me of some of the sketchy tires I used to run on my VW Bug. And yeah, two lug nuts should be enough -- happy trails...

  12. I can tell you, I would rather be sitting, with my husband and dogs, in a dry 80 degree desert, just north of Mexico, looking at dirt and not looking at flowers than to be at work today!! LOL!!

I agree, out on the road, is never a good time to play around with new settings or adjustments. Or try a few and preview them right away. I learned the hard way too on several ocassions.

Sound like a great time reguardless of not seeing flowers and not have photographs. I do enjoy seeing the country through your travels.

  14. Here I am lying in bed drinking my coffee and going down the list of blogs I really enjoy...of course, I came to you, and you have not let me down. I am so laughing at your comment about your wife and the “how to use your camera” book. I am impressed you understand enough of that hoopla to even start playing with setting. All I can do is auto and the AV. Sorry your shots were a mess...that really goes to show you sometimes not know it all pays off big time. Now to your tire. Surely you are kidding me. It looks like a happy face with scroungy black hair. That photo really does make me giggle. Glad you all are having a good time. Hope you are having nice and comfy weather. Take care and be safe getting back. genie
