The test of an adventure is that when you are in the middle of it, you say to yourself, "Oh, now I've got myself into an awful mess; I wish I were sitting quietly at home." And the sign that something is wrong with you is when you sit quietly at home wishing you were out having lots of adventure. -Thornton Wilder

The nice thing about being confused is you get a chance to notice things a lot better than if you knew where you were going.

Houston, We Have a Problem

Winganon, Oklahoma

In 1959 a cement truck crashed off the side of this road.  The tank was left behind and ever since local prankster artists periodically transform the remains - currently a crashed NASA space capsule.

When I was doing my research for this trip and came across this one I thought Yeah, maybe. If it is not too far out of the way and I feel like it.  Well this was so cool to come up upon on an Oklahoma country road.  They did a great job on it including the addition of the exhaust cones and broken cabling.

Coming from the other direction.  Fortunately there was hardly and traffic on this road and I could stop the Little House on the Highway on the road to get these pictures.  I now wish I had got out and looked inside.

At any rate, I am glad I searched this one out.  Well worth it.  Fun!

  1. That's so strange that the tank was left there for all these years, but what a cool landmark!
