Golden Spike Tower, North Platte, Nebraska

Union Pacific's Bailey Yard, the world's largest train yard. If trains are your thing then this is where you can while away an entire day watching all the activity down below.

We continue on our tour of the Lincoln Highway today and will spend the night near the Wyoming border.  From there it will be several long days of travel, unfortunately all Interstate Highway before we arrive back home.

  1. So glad you got to see the train yard. I was impressed that the UP pays the 3 years schooling for HS grads to train(hehehehe) for the jobs they need. Then they graduate with a job waiting. Did you see where every train wheel gets an MRI on a regular basis to check for stress cracks?

  4. An interesting place to visit. When I was a student in London we had a big shunting yard (train yard) at the bottom of our garden. Along with the North Circular Road outside the front door and 6 young people playing music deep into the night, it was not a very restful place!
