Alligators

Everglades, Florida

I have oodles of alligator pictures and I thought I best start showing a few here and there in my posts from our trip along the Gulf Coast.  If I don't, you'll be looking at alligators for weeks when I run out of the other material.

Some of my photos such as this one with just water and the gator, are pretty colorless.  This usually happened when looking right down upon them.  The alligator is after all black so I converted those to black and white.  If nothing else it reminds me of old adventure programs I used to watch on television with my grandfather when all they had was a black and white TV.
And lets not forget the old Tarzan movies too.

Fascinating animals. I just love them.

I had my polarizing filter on for these pictures and you can see how it cuts right through the glare of the water and you can see the stones beneath the gator.
A polarizing filter is a great tool to have in your camera kit.

  1. Wow! I am really impressed. These are wonderful shots. Although I don't want to be "friends" with an alligator, I do find them fascinating.

  2. They really looks like suitcases on feet. But it must give a little uneasy feeling without the fences and or the glass from the zoo.

    I don't think I would feel comfortable about photographing them unless I had a 500mm lens. ;-)

  4. This is amazing to see them in the wild. But scary as well, they can move so quickly....

  5. I'm not sure how 'dangerous' to humans that alligators may be?? I don't think they have a bad reputation with humans as do our crocodiles unfortunately. Great photos John
