The test of an adventure is that when you are in the middle of it, you say to yourself, "Oh, now I've got myself into an awful mess; I wish I were sitting quietly at home." And the sign that something is wrong with you is when you sit quietly at home wishing you were out having lots of adventure. -Thornton Wilder

The nice thing about being confused is you get a chance to notice things a lot better than if you knew where you were going.

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

Update on noreply-comment@blogger

Felicia at Raggedy Creations sent me an e-mail informing me that YES, we can still add our e-mail address to our comments address for easy reply from a blogger.  Here are her directions to make those changes if you would like to make it easy for a blogger to answer your question in his or her comments:

If a blogger clicks on the design button on the top right of the blog that takes them into a setting page.  On the top right hand corner of this page you will see your blog name with a drop down arrow beside it.  Click on the drop down and a little box will appear.  If you now click on blogger profile another page will come up.  On the right hand side of this page click on edit profile.
A page will come up Privacy right at the top.  The second line that says "show my email address" is where people have to make sure a check mark is.  Then they are not a "no reply blogger"

Here is a link to a blog post about the google + no reply thing.
Thank you Felicia!  As TexWisGirl commented below and the above link shows, if you use Google+ you cannot make the change.  I don't use Google+.  Didn't care for it and I have a difficult time navigating through those blogs of those that do use it.  Keep it simple I always say.

I had an inquiry as to how the iPhone fit into the contraption I designed.  Since I took yesterday's pictures with the phone I wasn't able to show it in place.  Too lazy to go get my camera I was.  So here is the phone in the holder.

The V is hard rubber and doesn't scratch the screen plus I am careful in slipping the phone in place.
If I find myself using this often I'll look into getting a more proper holder for the phone.

noreply-comment@blogger.com

Occasionally I get asked a question in the comments of my blog posts.   Comments come into my e-mail and I enjoy answering questions and giving unsolicited advice.  But if the the e-mail address of the commentor shows (noreply-comment@blogger.com) after their name I cannot answer your question.  I could answer it in the comments section of my post but how many people go back checking blog posts after already viewing them?

(much, much later)

Okay, so the intent behind this post was to show you how to have your e-mail address show so all we have to do is reply back directly to you.  I planned on writing out the steps to be taken to do this and was trying to retrace these steps as I wrote it out...but I was having a heck of a time verifying what I thought was the proper procedure.  I dug deeper into the "help" section and finally discovered Blogger changed this long ago for it was creating too many issues with people and their security.  Ya can't put your e-mail address in there anymore!  Grrrr....
So how do I answer questions?  I don't know unless you are one of the few who are grandfathered in to having your e-mail address visible.  Better think twice if you ever want to change that as there is no going back.

Anyway, what got me onto this was a couple comments asking about my little tripod and how I plan to mount the iPhone to it.  Does my phone have a screw-in hole for a tripod?  No.  I made a holder for my phone using an adapter that came with my mono-pod.  Maybe there is something out there one can buy to hold their phone onto a tripod but I haven't looked.

The V shaped thingy is to cradle a long lens in when using the mono-pod.
I bent the wire piece to hold the iPhone against the V piece.

  The inspector approves.

Horse Feathers

One day last week I took a easy stroll along a trail always good for mushrooms.  That photo trip turned into the three camera comparison series you saw over the weekend.  Anyway, I ended up in the parking lot where the horse people park their trailers.  The horses get a good brush down after their walk along the trails in the park and I always find the remains of these brushings lying on the ground.

That's the last of the comparison photos.  I'm keeping the DSLR, not that I was considering putting it up on the shelf and will work with the iPhone more as I think it has potential if you know what you're doing, which I don't.

Very Sad to See

As I arrived at the flea market early yesterday morning I came upon fire trucks in the parking lot and I figured they were holding a training exercise.  As I rounded the corner of the Veterans Memorial building I saw they were putting out the flames on someone's motor home.  This just made me sick to see feeling so bad for the person.  They were not parked near the market but on the other side of the Veterans Building.  Maybe they were a traveler who over-nighted in the parking lot, I don't know.  But I thought about myself traveling and something like this happening.  I would be devastated.  I overheard a conversation at the market that the owner went to start the vehicle, something popped in the engine compartment and the fire began.  I have two fire extinguishers in my motor home.  One is in an outside compartment which is always locked.  I see now that is not good.  I'll move it inside with the other one.  I wasn't going to take pictures of someone's misfortune but on the way out decided to do so as no one was around.  I thought maybe I would put it onto the blog if for no other reason than maybe someone reading this will think about it some and have a fire extinguisher in their vehicle at the ready all of the time.

On a good note, I picked up this little tripod for $1.
It'll be put to good use like holding that darn iPhone steady.

The Answer Sheet

The first photo in each set was done with the DSLR

The second photo is from the point and shoot.

Lastly was the iPhone

The iPhone was at a slight disadvantage for I am not that used to using it as much and don't do the exposure and focusing tools as well as I could.  Also I don't hold it as steady as I should most of the time.  I need more practice with it.  You can click here for a quick go-back to yesterday's post
to see the pictures once again now that you know.

Quiz Time Kids

The following pictures were taken with my three cameras - a point and shoot, the iPhone and my DSLR.
Can you tell what is done with what?
Each set of three are in the same order so there is no mixing up of the cameras.
No adjustments were made; all straight out of the camera.

Shade

Shade and light mix

Full on sun

You don't have to put what you think in a comment unless you want.  I'm not expecting that.  Just something to look at and think a little about.  Tomorrow, thus giving everyone a chance, I'll post what number photo in each set goes with which camera.  I bet most of you will get it anyway.
Sorry but no prizes are given.

Mislaid Plans

After the rains we had a week or so ago, I should get up into the woods and look for some of these little devils.  Each day I think I ought to that then something comes up and gets in my way of doing so.
Maybe tomorrow.

The $400 Sign

At the fish and chips shop a couple doors down from the pet supply store where I buy Sinbad's food.
Newcastle Brown Ale is tasty too.

What Are These?

Hint: at a winery

I was there and I don't even know.

My guess clamps for hoses and lines from the vats in transferring wine
from one storage place to another.
I think they would fit in with the Spanish Inquisition quite nicely.

Wave Action

As your scroll down see this wave peel away frame by frame.

John "By Stargoose And Hanglands" said:

Click on the first shot to enlarge it then click rapidly through the subsequent shots to see the full effect. It's rather wonderful.

I hadn’t thought of that.  That works better and saves you from the nausea.

Yes, a video would have been nicer.

On Social Media

The other day I was reading an article on "Life Traps" and this one item I thought interesting:

"Social media is our culture's most narcissistic creation.  Everyone is posting things they want others to see, but no one cares, because they are all just posting things they want others to see.  It's an awful little circle in the age of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, showing what you've done to the faceless masses is easier now than ever before.  But when you are concentrating on capturing the moment for someone else to see, you miss out on it yourself.  And don't forget, no one actually cares how much you pretend to enjoy yourself, so you might as well actually enjoy yourself.  What a novel concept!"

So blogging wasn't listed among the evils of social media.  I wonder if that was with purpose or an oversight of the author.  Personally I don't feel blogs fall into the same category as Facebook and the like.  Incidentally I don't and have never engaged in any of these vices.  This blog is my only social media exposure.  I look at blogs to see people, places, things, a way of life where I'll most likely never get to see in person.  People show me this in the photos they display [things they want others to see].  Yes, there are lots of times I take a picture with the blog in mind so I guess you can say I am [concentrating on capturing the moment for someone else to see] but I don't feel I miss out on it myself.  Sometimes I do forget to take a picture of something I had intended for the blog.  Yesterday's post was a good example of that.  Seems to me like I am not concentrating enough.

Out for Coffee

We have lots of coffee houses in our area not counting the ever-present Starbucks scattered about.
We like this one best and it is close to home.  We only pass three Starbucks in getting there.
SOCO stands for Sonoma County

I really must remember to hold the phone steady indoors.  I got a pecan sticky roll while my wife got a ginger scone.  You can see it in the first photo.  She always gets a latte.  I stick to the straight stuff.

I like this mocha java.  I was counting in getting a picture of the coffee splattered hand made sign but they must have just replaced them recently with the tape signs.  Darn as they really had character.

Nice home style seating to be had.

A big screen TV for some reason but fortunately the sound is always off.

Where you place your order.  They also have soups, breakfast burritos (oh so good), crepes and such to be had also.  I had intended to get a menu shot and forgot.

And they always have a local artist displaying their work.

Here, he got away from his "prison art".  Don't know what is with the black bars.

I meant to check his prices and forgot.  Sorry.
