The test of an adventure is that when you are in the middle of it, you say to yourself, "Oh, now I've got myself into an awful mess; I wish I were sitting quietly at home." And the sign that something is wrong with you is when you sit quietly at home wishing you were out having lots of adventure. -Thornton Wilder

The nice thing about being confused is you get a chance to notice things a lot better than if you knew where you were going.

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

Day 11

A gallon of water weighs 8.3 pounds.  I can't carry that much extra than I already am.  And they want hikers to carry even more than a gallon?  I never go out into the desert any further than I know that I can get back safely with what I carry with me.  In all my years of hiking only one time was I worried and that was in Big Bend, Texas.  I went too far with too little water.  BIG lesson learned that day!

Tomorrow is election day.  I feel safe where I am.

  1. When I use to hike it was in the mountains, and I carried enough water on me for the day. I would drink what I carried in backpack, but I managed to carry more weight out, rocks! It was tough when I would slip and end up like a turtle on my back. Be safe and I hope you voted already...

  2. glad you play it conservatively.

  3. Keep away from the mess I should think.
