California Quail

Popping his head up to see if I am a threat or not.

I was not as I was inside shooting through our sliding glass door.

We have a covey of quail that visits our yard everyday scratching about beneath the feeders for all the scraps the other birds carelessly fling to the ground.

I intend to work on gaining their trust enabling me to sit on the deck and photograph them without a sheet of glass obstructing the sharpness of the image.

I like birds that help clean up after the messier ones. :)

Great job getting such good shots through glass John. I keep the screens out all winter so I can get stelth shots out the window. Quail are so beautiful though, well worth the effort.
Cheers to you Sir!

Hi there - what a great bird.

The curlews are actually knee high to a person - so they are not small at all!

this would not be a casual sighting for me- I've never seen a quail and these shots are pretty incredible, with the light and close-up details of their feathers. what a beautiful bird. the first shot is my fave - he looks like he has ears.
