I was reading a news article about a Missouri couple who won half of the $587 million Powerball jackpot back in November. They collected $136.5 million after taxes. What makes this couple different from most is they continue to live modest lives giving most of the money back to their community. The article went on to tell about other lottery winners whose lives really go bad after winning and many lose all of the money in a matter of years. I don't buy lottery tickets. I've always felt a person has a better chance robbing a bank and getting away with it than winning anything to speak of through a lottery. Also I feel money causes problems. Well, the lack of money does too but that's not my point. I wouldn't want all that money. Why I'd have to figure out what to do with it all. I don't need the stress. What I would like to see with these lotteries is instead of a $587 million jackpot, how about 587 million dollar winners? Or 1174 half million dollar winners? Just imagine how $100,000 could help 5870 people. Spread it around. $100,000 I could manage. Why I might even buy a lottery ticket then.

That amazes me always too. Why such a huge amount of money for one person. It is to much to handle so suddenly. Better to make more people happy.

Last time I was in a lottery I lost and ended up spending two years as a "guest" of the United States Army. Haven't played since.
Money always causes trouble, especially the sudden onset of it. Imagine all the wackos coming out of the woodwork... and in my case, they'd all be family. ;-) Actually I'd be really fearful that some crazy would kidnap my kids.
Hey you'd get me buying lottery tickets with your scheme. Yes, any thinking person wouldn't buy lottery tickets with such terrible odds. It's the same at casinos.
i like the million dollars each - enough to really change a person's life (and their family's) but not enough to crush them w/ extravagance to the point of waste - especially after taxes.
HI John...I have never bought a lottery ticket...I agree with you on spread it around, there are a lot who would love to have a little ..heck 10 or 100 bucks would help!!
