Monster Mushroom

This is the biggest mushroom I have ever come across in the park.
I only had my iPhone to use as a size comparison.

Nearby was it's slightly smaller brother but still large enough to feed a family of four.

  1. 'feed a family of four' - did you take it home with you? Can you tell which ones are the edible ones? I never would want to chance it; kind of Russian Roulette happening, no joy in that

  2. These are certainly huge, to shelter under when it rains maybe.

  3. Hi John...I don't think I want a bite ..I'll pass, but it is massive!!
    Fascinating things aren't they!

  4. It's a beauty John and do you know if it's edible?.

We have "snap, crackle and pop!" over here to. The Kellogg factory in Manchester is just a few hundred yards from where I work.

    Take care.

  5. Hey John do you have Morel mushrooms growing out there? They are soooo good to eat.

  6. Darn big!. So if they're edible they will make a good feed. There's nothing like the flavor of wild mushrooms.

  7. That could have eaten your phone! Nice shot.

  8. Thats a big mushroom - I wonder if the iPhone will ever become a standard measure of size - its pretty ubiquitous!

  9. monster mushrooms! I miss running into mushrooms (especially all the cool ones on the North Coast)- i never see too many around this area in Texas.
