Garden of Eden
The Samuel P. Dinsmore Home
"The first story, or basement, is built of common sense stone wall. The floors baseboards and window stools are cement."
This was my favorite part of the house and I believe it was Sam's also. All of the kitchen and dining area was in the basement. Unlike most basements, his was half deep meaning that the bottoms of the windows were just above ground level and you can see that in the outside pictures of a few days ago. Thus the kitchen had ample natural light.
Again, look at the condition of the linoleum after nearly 100 years.
This is the doorway out to the side of the house with the Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve stand.
I suspect that most of Sam's neighbors and friends entered through this door rather than the main door of the front of the house.
The doorway with the sign over it leads into the coal room.
The stairway back up to the ground floor.
I imagine is was quite cool in here during those hot summer days of Kansas.

It looks very comfy. A nice big kitchen is even today the meeting point for a family but the preparation for food and the whole family together is under pressure nowadays. Special in the cities. Not the case in the time of Samuel.P.Dinsmore.
The house looks so nice to live in, so stylish with the furniture, the floor and the wood. He made a masterpiece with it.
How smart to build the hous so deep into the ground. Good for staying warm in winter, cool in summer.
i bet it was, too! looks homey and comfortable.
The house really looks great, comfy. Reminds me of my Grandparents.
It has been fun to see the inside and out of the Dinsmore house! I agree with the basement heat/winter, cool/summer. Dinsmore knew his stuff!
