The higher I got to the summit, the steeper the trail became. "Give me a break will ya?" I really don't mind the climbing all that much but knew coming down something so steep would be hard on these old knees. Finally the trail leveled out, I broke through some low lying scrub and was greeted with a view of the peak of Hood Mountain.
"This is it?!!"
The whole way up all I thought about was the reward in having a magnificent view of the Sonoma Valley and beyond. "Good grief! Get up here and cut some trees down so I can see something!"
Being quite disappointed, I sat down to rest a bit before my trek back down.
While sitting there this guy came out from all the underbrush on the other side of the clearing. I hadn't seen one person all the way up so I was surprised to see this fellow. I got to talking with him grumbling about the lack of a view among other things. He told me where I could go to get a better view. My spirit returned. I learned that this gentleman comes up here once a week and he was two weeks away from celebrating his 73rd birthday. My spirit took a small step back.
more to come
