Auto-enhance

I have noticed at times my pictures on the blog look different from the way I edited them.  I chalked this up to having a crappy computer.  But I recently learned that Google messes with your pictures unknowingly to you the user.  There is an auto-enhance feature in the settings.  The top photo is with the auto-enhance on.  The lower photo is with it off, thus leaving the photo as you had edited it.  The changes are sometimes so slight you cannot tell any difference.  Other times there is no doubt something is not right.  I went through quite a few photos trying to come up with a noticeable difference, but I think you can see it with these two especially in the upper left corner background.  Google's auto-enhance darkened it some.  If you want to turn this feature off go to https://www.google.com/settings/plus scroll down to Photos and near the bottom of that section click on the off button.  It saves the setting automatically.  This is a junk photo so ignore the out-of-focus and the dust spots.

Thank you so much for researching this, John. I had noticed the"enhancement" and it was ticking me off, but I didn't know what to do about it. I will check out the URL you provided. Again, a BIG thank you! (I hope it works. lol)

i've heard several bloggers complain about alterations after they uploaded a photo. good to know there's a 'reason' behind it. thanks!

Thanks, John. I just changed it. It has been a pain in the patootie but I blamed myself. So glad I don't have to get new equipment.

Good thing I don't spend alot of time editing if they are going to do it for me. Nice photos.

glad you found our missing link John! Well researched and I've now gone back and done the homework you set for us; well done! Oh .. and thanks a bunch.

Exactly! I noticed that it applied a back-lit treatment to a photo that I wanted in silhouette. That's when I took action.

I wonder if this is what happened to some of my photos in the past. Will check out the link.

I wonder if you need to have a Google+ or Picasa account for this (neither of which I have). I don't seem to have the option at all and have never noticed enhancements on my blog.
