Good Stone Fence

Shelbyville, Kentucky

I am a big fan of stone or rock fences, but I have never seen one like this before.
No, your glasses aren't dirty.  I had to take this while driving as there was no place for me to pull over, therefore it is a little blurry.

For more fences check out TexWisGirl's GOOD FENCES.

Nice fence but I must admit I saw lots of those in Ireland this year.

SC has said it already I see, but we have seen these in Ireland indeed. So it probably has been an immigrant from Europe who made this.

i've only seen them on blogs like this. i wish we had stone fences here! but even if we had the rock, our ground shifts too much to support them. beautiful, though!

Here, when someone clears land, there's plenty of rocks. Some people are able to make these perfect walls with smooth sides and 90 degree angles, with odd shaped rocks, all different sizes..
To me it's amazing.

It's a fine looking wall. Have seen them in the UK like this.

So pretty. There are many around here in Virginia, too, especially in Northern VA where the land is rocky. So labor-intensive.

Blurry or not it is a lovely fence ---and a unique one. I like stone fences, too.

Very nice rock wall/fence. The two different layers are very interesting.

I like the stone/rock fences, too. There's a fence just like that here in our little burg in central Indiana. It borders the front of a newer subdivision.

It reminds me of the UK especially Ireland.

I haven't seen one either. Sounds like the have them in the UK and Ireland. It seems to me that they wanted the fence a bit higher and decided it would take fewer it they stood them up?

I really like these beautiful stone fences!! I do often think about how labor intense they must be to build!!

I was recently in Ct. and saw hundreds of these stone walls!!

And many thanks for your kind comment on my blog!!

I'm with you on stone/rock fences..they are so sturdy looking and seem to be able to stand a long long time. I have seen some that have tumbled down, but not many.
Love this one...

That is a great rock wall. I have a friend who occasionally builds these walls in the course of his work but I've never seen one.

Looks like a well-built wall. In the UK there are different styles in different regions, largely dependent on the local stone.

I love stone fences. I believe they are most often built by people trying to clear their land of rocks so it solves two problems at once.

Very nice! A land of rocks can make a great fence!
