A Short Hike in Florida

Gulf Island National Seashore, Florida

There was this hiking trail close to my campsite and I thought I'd do a little exploring.
Gotta lock my bike up first though.

Ooo...this looks like it will be fun.  Yep, I was imagining I was in the jungles of Africa.

Oh my, they don't have trees like this back home.  Best I pay attention to where I go.

This is the top of that mean looking tree, whatever it is.

I was surprised to find these fungi and seeing them made me pause to think of my hiking trails back home and a wee bit of homesickness set in for just a moment.
After all, home was 2500 miles away from us at this point.

What's this? Someone threw an old tire and a board into the water way?  Good grief!

Oops, a closer look proved otherwise.

I really did think it was an old tire and had ignored it earlier.

Back at camp that evening it began to rain with thunder and lightening as a bonus.
Poor Sinbad.  He does not like thunder.

That mean-looking tree would make an excellent weapon, but not against alligators!

I see lots of leaves on the ground there, autumn is coming.

Wow -- that Alligator! You're lucky he didn't decide to make a wallet, pair of shoes, or handbag out of you.
