We are back home. We weren't gone that long and have been home for a couple of weeks. Sinbad wasn't doing well and we went to the vet to see how his thyroid was doing. The doctor found his kidneys were failing. This is not what I wanted to hear. I've had cats all my life and a fair number have had kidney failure. This is common among older cats. Sinbad stayed with the vet for 5 days; five miserable days for both of us. The vet was able to get his levels back to near normal and he came home this week. He is his old self again but I know this is just buying time. I've been trying to come to terms with the inevitable and working on the process of letting go. Meanwhile we've been spending as much quality time together as possible. He is always by my side and seemingly fears I will abandon him again. I will not. When it is time, I will let him go.
I have pictures to share from our last trip but just don't seem to have the motivation with the blog right now, yet I will try. We spent a week at the Alabama Hills on the eastern side of the Sierra Mountains at the base of Mt. Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous 48 states. This is a popular location for the movie industry and most recognizable for the old westerns of the 1930's, 40's and 50's.

This was our camp for nearly a week
and this was our view from the door.
Mt. Whitney is just off center to the right, above that zig-zag cut for the road leading to Whitney Portal. Although the singular dome point of Whitney doesn't look as tall as the other mountains to it's left and right, that is because it sets back further.
Mt. Whitney stands at 14,505 feet (4421 meters) high.
I apologize for not checking in with all of your blogs as I normally do. I just am not into it right now.

What a sad tiding about Sinbad. You know it wil happen in the end but it always feel like the first time or worse. During our time we lost 5 cats until now and all feel terrible. I wish you strength in the coming times.
Oh John, what a sad story. I can imagine you are not in the mood for blogging. Poor Sinbad 5 days away from you that must have been an ordeal for both of you. I hope he will stay some more time with you. Wish you all the best and keep my fingers crossed for you.
Best of luck with Sinbad. MY dog, Ditto, is 15 and I thought I was going to lose him a couple months ago. He's fine now, but like you said.... Preparing for the inevitable.
John, so sorry to hear about Sinbad. Looks like you were really out in the country!
I'm sorry to hear about Sinbad. You sure do visit some awesome country.
i'm so sorry. i know how much you love sinbad. i'm glad you've gotten a bit more time with him, again, although i know those 5 days were traumatic for both of you. i'm glad you will keep him close for as long as you can.
I have missed you. I rarely comment but I look forward to your posts. All my best for getting back to normal.
Cool pics, Jon.
Welcome back to blogger home.
Peace :)
I, too, have missed your blogs, John. So sorry to hear about Sinbad, but so glad you're able to spend as much time together now. Our little Daisy is 15 and is getting more and more crippled....we know we'll lose her sooner than later, and feel as you do-- spending as much time together as we can.
Our hearts are with you and Sinbad.

Welcome back. Love the shots. I had to make another emergency vet visit a few weeks ago too with my oldest, she's fine just getting older. So glad to hear Sinbad is doing better. We missed you both.
Kidney failure is how we lost our last cat as well. Let go when you're ready.
I feel your pain so immensely. Our pets are so dear to us and when they are getting old it is heart-breaking. I have not really recovered from losing my dear dog and it has been 4 years now. I hope Sinbad uses his last of the 9 lives slowly and he is with you for a long time to come.
You do what you have to. You know we'll always be here. Hang in there.
