See that branch sticking out at about ten o'clock?
That is all that is alive on this once great tree.
After cutting the tunnel it killed the rest of the tree.
I somehow missed "Big Stump" referred to in that sign so I pulled these from the internet to show.
Yes people do really stupid things even today while they must know better.
Yes, people and nature, a difficult combination.......
Unbelievable John.. and we are supposed to be the most intelligent of the species, this sort of thing makes me seriously doubt this theory !
This won't be the last stupid idea we see in our lifetime, John.
We were able to see this one in person.
I once saw a picture of a "house" carved out of a log that was about as big as a shipping container.
we humans are a selfish bunch.
My wife and I visited the beautiful Sequoias just last June for the first time. Photos just can't do them justice . . . even mine ;-) Thanks for the memories and reminders.
If only we go back and undo past mistakes.
on our list of what to see for sure. i want to see those mighty Sequoias. so gorgeous! ( :
Hopefully time has made us more aware of nature and how to protect it... not too sure though John?
Interesting insight on history of our attitudes, and such a shame. Hopefully our ideas of nature have evolved a little!
I was there when I was a kid. Nice shots.
I agree. How stupid of that tree to grow exactly where the road was going to go. And they say that age brings wisdom!
It's been many years since I went there. I love the majesty of the trees and wish that they hadn't been cut and "maimed".
