Bob lived in this enclosure at the Jawbone Canyon BLM Visitor Center
I think Bob just polished off a dish full of strawberries before I arrived.
In all the times I have been to the desert over the years, only once, maybe twice, have I come across a Desert Tortoise in the wild.
There are way too many interesting facts about Desert Tortoises to relate here so if you are interested here is a Wikipedia link about them.
Where that website states they live to approximately 50 to 80 years of age, the sign in Bob's home proclaimed him to be over 100 years old.

They look like a kind of prehistoric animals, fascinating to see. I only have seen them in the Zoo here. He or she blush by your precence mayby?
Looks like bob has put on his war paint.
How funny to capture the animal with it's face all red! Maybe strawberries. Either that or she did an awful job of putting on her makeup for your visit! ;-)
then i think he's well-tended to. :)
Somehow it is hard to picture them surviving in the desert!
Glad you cleared the strawberries up. I thought Bob might have been busy smooching the ladies.
Hmmm. I guess Bob must not have told the website people about how much he has aged!
