Not Cactus Flowers

There are other plants blooming in the desert besides cactus.

This little guy likes to eat the plants.

This one too!

Back to the Flowers in the Desert

That's pretty much it for the cactus flowers in my garden at home
so back to those in the desert.

Hedgehog Cactus

I had to wait a few days longer for the hedgehog cactus in my garden to fully boom out.
I have the crimson variety.  There is also a "strawberry" variety that has dark fuchsia color flower.

The red in these flowers is so brilliant my camera sensors are overloaded and detail is lost.

Now if I knew more about camera settings....

Timing is Important

I was there too early to catch this Agave in bloom.
It probably is right now though.

So here are some more cacti flowering.

But wait, elsewhere later on I did find one flowering.

Looking Good

The sun came out the next day and the cactus flower opened up more.

Close by another cactus is going crazy with flowers.
Behind it notice another getting ready to open up.

I am waiting for the yellow flowers on the short cactus in front to open.  They will be small.

Cactus Blooming

We travel hundreds of miles to the deserts down south in search of cacti in bloom. When we come home my own cactus are in flowering mode.  You'd think I ought to just stay home.

Some cactus are the one-day-wonder type of flower.  I can't remember if this is one that the flower will close and wilt away over night so I thought it best to get this picture now even though the sun had not been out all day long.  You'll notice there are two more buds waiting to open.

Unlike yesterday's tiny eraser head sized flowers these blooms are larger than your fist.

Spring Blooms in the Desert

A small fishhook cactus with tiny blossoms.
These flowers are about the size of an eraser on the end of a pencil.

Monday Mural

Seen in a small town on my most recent trip to the California deserts.
Excellent detail in this painting.

A full building view as to better appreciate the size of this mural.
