I had to wait a few days longer for the hedgehog cactus in my garden to fully boom out.
I have the crimson variety. There is also a "strawberry" variety that has dark fuchsia color flower.
The red in these flowers is so brilliant my camera sensors are overloaded and detail is lost.
Now if I knew more about camera settings....

Two things worth trying: bracketing exposures - if you suspect that getting the correct exposure is going to be tricky then take several photos under- and over-exposing; some cameras will do this automatically if asked nicely! Otherwise try shooting on an overcast day and underexposing; the colours will still be surprisingly saturated. Better still hold a white cotton sheet in such a way that it casts a shadow over the flowers. There are also ways to rescue such shots (if you're lucky!) on a photo-editing programme but it's a bit too complicated to explain here. If you like to e-mail me the files I'll have a go.
Unbelievable that you can have such beauties in your garden. I love to see them.
They are doing very well in your garden, you care them with love.
I love that bright red!
We have a small one like this in our cactus garden, but it hasn't had blooms as yet. Very pretty.
fabulous color!
I am reminded of vanilla ice cream with cherry topping - that beautiful :)
Have a Beautiful Day!
Peace :)
They are gorgeous! Such a bright, pretty red.
That is RED! Lovely.
Oh gosh this happens to me when I photograph black birds..I lose all the details. But these are awesome reds..very pretty. I am jealous of your sunshine..I'm about to go looking for an ark if this rain here doesn't let up soon.
Wow! You caught that at the perfect time.
The same thing happens to me and my camera, specifically with red. Lush looking flowers.
