Water

Water must have been a precious resource in Bodie as there are no flowing streams anywhere in the high country of the eastern Sierra where Bodie is located.
Notice another prop holding up a building.

There was snow in the winters though.  But that would mean firewood to melt the snow and there are no trees in the area.  All timber was hauled in.

I guess they made up for it all by drinking more beer and whisky.

At Bodie

If you like taking pictures of old weathered wood, Bodie is the place to go.

I like these curtains.

I see you...

do you see me?

The Park rangers live on site at Bodie due to it's remoteness
and to be able to keep an eye on things during the hours the Park is closed.

The Car

Could this be the car missing it's crankshaft from yesterday's post?

This car happens to be one of the more photographed items at Bodie Ghost Town SP.

It's a mid to late 30's something that died at Bodie and someday will rust away to nothing.

Step Back into the Past

Since I have ran out of fresh photo material I thought I'd dip into some pictures from a few years back in our visit to Bodie Ghost Town on the eastern side of the High Sierra mountains.  Bodie State Park is a prime spot for the photographer.

Many wagons met the end of their road in Bodie.

Cars too.

New Bloom?

From my cactus garden.  I'm not sure if this cactus has ever bloomed before or not.  It's getting hard for me to keep track of them all, but I thought I'd share anyway.

I have run out of photos from our last few road trips and don't have any plans to hit the road again until fall.  So I'll probably just revisit some images from the past over the summer months with maybe a few current ones thrown in every once in awhile...if something exciting happens.

Be Very Still

This guy was kind enough to sit still and pose for me.

That doesn't happen very often with lizards.

Maybe he was just as interested in me as I was with him.

Lines Down

Is someone wondering why their phone isn't working?
Repair service is slow in the remote desert wilderness.

The Things I Find

I like to just go wandering off into the desert exploring about where I think no one has ever been before...then only to come across something like this.

Then I stand there looking all around wondering how did this get here?
There is nothing else in sight for as far as I can see.
"Guess I am not the first person ever to come this way."

I am still waiting for the day I come up upon an old gun that has been left lying in the desert for 100 years.  You may think the chance of that is pretty remote but just recently one was found in Great Basin National Park in Nevada.  Click here to see a picture of it.

Nice Snake

Found him sleeping peacefully in the shade of a creosote bush.
Yes, it is a rattlesnake.  What a beauty.

Ocotillo Blossom

Yes, it would be nicer if I had gotten closer for the photo
but these are way up there higher than I am tall.

This Old Cottonwood

It lived quite a few years just fine in the harsh desert environment judging by the size,
then it all of sudden it gave up and died.
Perhaps the underground water source it relied upon changed course for some reason.

Fire in the Sky

Sunset in the desert can really be amazing at times.

You must have some clouds though to really make it work to its finest.

Dunes

Notice the spots from dust on my lens.  The desert is not nice to camera equipment.
