There wasn't one. Everyone just tossed their refuse out the back door.
It is fun to try a figure out what the various cans may have contained.
Think of all the jobs that basin was used for.
The large one gallon container held what? Cooking oil? Lamp oil?
Another basin just like the one above. Perhaps these are what the general store in Bodie sold.
Here the neck of a medicine bottle. Doc Johnson's Snake Oil Elixir perhaps.
I like the colored glass the bottles of that day were made from.

Yes remarkable they had coloured glass in such a remote area.
I made that remark earlier also. Food for future archeologists.
that would drive me crazy! i hate trash and pick it up around here whenever it unearths.
i read that glass in those days had something in it that turned colors after long exposure to the sun - shows how old it is.

Love these old trash finds. I see these all the time driving around the desert, especially near the old mining camps. You can tell a lot about the people who used to live there (and when they lived there) by digging through their trash! I found a lot of old WW2 General Patton military training camp trash a while back. I'm guessing that glass has some lead in it, was clear back in the day, and picked up the color over the years by being exposed to light.
I wonder what stories future archaeologists will make of these rubbish dumps?

I think way back when it was a common practice in may places to toss refuse out the back door. For sure we cannot understand that now!
Great travels and places, I admire your drive to explore, live and photograph. I believe Sinbad is a great company; cats are curious and enjoy seeing and exploring too!
