Twisted Manzanita

It seems this manzanita bush couldn't decide which direction to grow.
I wonder if early on in its life a rock was on top of it and it grew out from beneath it.
The rock and since moved on.

Looks a bit like a bench in the wrong direction.

It looks like a piece of art in the woods.

So that's what "manzanita" looks like; I've read the word so many times in books and had realised from context that it was a tree, bush or shrub of some kind but had never seen a photo of one - till today.

Never seen a tree like this before, and the two tone colour makes it very appealing.
