On the first of each month I check the source outlets for my eBooks just to note down the number of downloads for each book. A couple years on the downloads now number in the hundreds. Amazing. That is something I never imagined at all when I began creating them. I’m sure making them available for free helps.
I often wonder what people think of them, good or bad, but never have received any feedback. I think my email address is noted somewhere in the books but I don’t come right out and ask for reviews or feedback like many authors do which helps boosts their sales on Amazon and the like.
Yesterday in checking the downloads I finally noticed a place where views or comments were posted. I never knew that was there. One comment read: “I am 90 years old and these books have given me adventure for many days. As I love cats Sinbad and Beans have filled my days with joy.” That meant the world to me. For people like Joesph is why I write these books. I know there are people out there for one reason or another cannot live the life that we do. Some may be homebound, unable to get out much for health reasons or simply old age. I tell our stories for them.
Currently I am in the process of doing the final edit for this years eBook. I enjoy the writing and I enjoy the editing too, putting on the final polish to the work. ‘Work’ is a poor name for it is anything but work. It is all pleasure for me except for getting a photo for the cover. Beans doesn’t cooperate. I have that yet to do for this years book.
All are available to download to your eReader or Kindle for free by just clicking on the books to the right of this post.
NOTICE: Two readers reported the downloads in the sidebar did not work for them. I test them before placing them in the sidebar and I haven’t heard of problems before. I tested them again this morning and was able to download all five. Do not buy them off of Amazon if you have a problem. Amazon forces me to set a price. They don’t allow free stuff on their site. If you have a problem with the downloads, go to smashwords.com and download them directly from there for free.

I tried over and over to download your books onto my computer but couldn't get them to work. I finally bought them for .99¢ from Amazon. Haven't started them yet, but will soon.
I once tried, with no luck to download one. Will try again! They do look interesting to this old nomad who's put up her boots.
Barbara, no one has ever mentioned the downloads didn’t work. I test them before I placed it on the sidebar. Now this morning I tested it again and was able to download all five. Let me know if you still have a problem. Maybe go directly to smashwords.com and download them from there.
Vicki, I have not been told the downloads in the sidebar didn’t work. I test them before placing them in the sidebar. I was able to download all five this morning. I wish you hadn’t bought them off of Amazon. Amazon forces me to set a price. They won’t let free books on their site. I would have had you go to smashwords.com and download directly from there. Maybe I need to put that tip in the sidebar somehow for others in the future.
Fair play to you giving them for free and bypassing Amazon, why should they make a profit on the back of your work
Thanks, but I didn't mind paying for them, I would have paid more. But the link to smashwords would help people out if they are having a rough time, especially now since so many people have been out of work for so long.
I've never had any problem downloading your books from the sidebar. Right-click and choose "Save link as" (on a computer).
The reason you are not getting any feedback is because your email address in not in any of your books (I just did a search in each of them). Nor is there any way to contact you on Smashwords or FreeEbooks.net. Even if you had an "Author" page on Amazon, I don't believe there is any way to contact authors on there.
Perhaps add your email address to the "Author's Note" page in your books? So that people can contact you directly instead of having to create an account on those platforms to leave a review. You could setup a different email address for just that use if you're concerned about spam. (Just some ideas.)
I have enjoyed reading your books. I may go visit some of the places you've been to, now that I am retired and not working all the time. :-)
I don’t know why I wrote what I did. I know my email address isn’t in the eBooks. I wondered ‘should I or shouldn’t I?” when I started out. Decided not to. I don’t need the ego boost. Just knowing they were downloaded as many times as reflected is satisfying enough. The blog is noted on both book sites though and I mention it in the eBooks. But you’re right; I should at least have it noted at the end of the books.
